Is GTA V Delayed to 2015 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One?

The mighty, mega behemoth of a games franchise, Sony got to be the bearer of highly anticipated news at E3 this year by announcing that GTA V would be coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One before Christmas. For those of us who’ve yet to take to the Los Santos streets mowing down every puny pixellated human who crosses paths with our bumpers or trying to make a quick, less than legal buck in GTA V’s post-financial crash setting, that was fantastic news. GTA V was going to be brighter, shinier and better looking than ever before! But with fresh rumours out of Gamescom that the game isn’t quite yet in a presentable state, we could have to wait until 2015 to play Rockstar’s masterpiece on new-gen.

GTA V: An Unfortunate Rumour Round-Up

This isn’t even the first time that we’ve heard that the PC, PS4 and Xbox One release of GTA V have been delayed. In fact, since the game hit the ground running at Sony’s E3 presser in June, it appears to have sprinted off a cliff and careered into a valley of silence. But why does it seem so likely that the game has been delayed?
Well the first inkling of this is the game’s notable absence from Gamescom. Plenty of us were worried but Michael Denny, vice president of Sony Worldwide Studios Europe waved it away with “I don’t think you should read anything into it,” in an interview with vg247. That’s a little worrying considering that although it would be in Rockstar’s best interest to show off their game at Europe’s biggest games conference and prove that the new version of GTA V is more than just a fresh lick of paint, they skipped the show as they “just had nothing new to update on” (according to Denny).
The next inkling that GTA V’s date had been pushed back was noted by CVG’s James Jarvis in their weekly GTA V’O Clock videos just two weeks ago. If GTA V is as ready as Rockstar say it is (or, rather, they haven’t officially said that we need to be worried) why haven’t they shown it off? If not to gamers then to press? Looking at the dates for the last-gen version of GTA V, journalists got their first sneak peek of the criminal sandbox title in January 2013, a full 8 months before the September release date, while it was wheeled out again for a showing in May. That’s a solid couple of previews before the game’s release but we’ve seen no such thing this time.
And finally, the latest suggestion comes today again from vg247 with editor Patrick Garratt going off of whisperings heard at Gamescom. Watching the embedded video above, Garratt explains that while journalists and gamers weren’t so lucky, retailers were able to see the PC, PS4 and Xbox One versions of GTA V in action behind closed doors. It’s worth noting that retailers are the first to hear about things given that how quickly they can get up promo material and allocate shelf space is a little longer than how quickly we can craft an article and it helps them put together their own financial forecasts. However, the fact that those selling the game were given seemingly unbridled access while everyone else has been provided with silence suggests that there’s either something Rockstar doesn’t want us to see or GTA V is far from being ready for a public outing on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
We’re still holding out hope though as one retailer said that game is still poised for a November release, but as soon as we get official word on GTA V’s PC, PS4 and Xbox One release, we’ll keep you posted.
